Is it ‘Cool’ to be an Adam Lambert Fan?

Adam Lambert spoke recently in an interview about his supporters, recognizing that for young people it may not "be cool" to be his fan. But despite that, he appreciates that there are those that do like his music  and are "ballsy enough" to admit it. Sure, some young people may think it's uncool being a fan of Adam Lambert, but why is that? There is a possibility it could be related to him being gay, or maybe it's from the stigma of being a former American Idol contestant. Or, maybe some other reason that is only known among those that are "too cool" to be his fan. In the interview  Adam talked about his fans:
"From what I can tell, there's more of a gay presence internationally than domestically, which I found interesting. I feel like the [gay fans] that I meet are the ones that kind of feel weird.... I pick up this kind of energy among young people that it might not be the coolest thing to say you like Adam Lambert's music. People don't think that I'm cool. So I love that I have the kids who are like ballsy enough to be like, 'F**k it, I like Adam's music.' I mean, I am kind of a nerd. I feel like there's a collective eye-roll when it comes to me, in the media and just in general consciousness — with the exception of my amazing Glamberts, my hard-core fans who are the opposite."
Do you think Adam has a good read on his fans? Is there really a collective eye-roll when it comes to Adam Lambert? Maybe with some people, but in general, this is probably not true. Of course, he does have a very strong Glambert fan base, which is very vocal in their love for him. But, if you measure Adam's popularity based on his album, single and Glam Nation DVD sales, there is no doubt that he has a huge following beyond the Glamberts. Plus, it is unlikely that more than 1.2 million fans would follow him on Twitter if he really were "uncool." As for the media, most of the attention is for positive reasons, like his contribution to charity and the awards he has either been nominated for (such as the upcoming MTV O Music Awards) or has already received.
