Lovely Library

Jamie Drake's "We Love Print" library for the 2012 Kips Bay Decorator Show House is a room to retreat to and enjoy turning the pages of real printed books.  It too features green walls made up of horizontal planks that were loosely inspired by paneled rec rooms from the 1950's and 60's. The mirrored walls reflect the amazing view and also expand the small space.  I especially love the mirrored panels along the door frame.

And yes, I have other topics I will be posting about this upcoming week but I also want to highlight a few more fabulous rooms at Kips Bay for those who will not be able to make the trip to New York.  It's also important to remember that these designers had about five weeks to design their rooms.  These aren't spaces that took months or years to complete for clients.  I personally think they all did an amazing job but I have heard some negative reviews around the internet.  Again, just because it's not your style or what you would have done, doesn't make it wrong.  If you keep an open mind, you might just realize that they were pretty right.

Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2012: Thom Filicia

Thom Filicia wins my award for the best design of a small space at the 2012 Kips Bay Decorator Show House.  I'm not even sure it can technically be considered a room since it barely has any walls.  It's more like a foyer between the entry, dining room, living room, and hall back to the library.  But if anyone could pull this off, it's the man who put a "living room where the crack den used to be" on my favorite episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

The exact shade of green used to lacquer the walls and ceiling in this space is Cat's Eye #2036-10 by Benjamin Moore.  It definitely helped reflect the light and make the space look larger. It also coordinates beautifully with the dining room designed by Todd Romano that you can see in the above photo. Neither designer was on site when I toured so I'm not sure if they were in cahoots but I know many other designers I spoke with said it was just a wonderful coincidence that they used green in their rooms.

This is the largest area of wall space which Thom hung a work of art by Shelly Reed, entitled “Garland with Bird” from Sears Peyton Gallery above his Vanguard Eagle Console from his collection available at Safavieh. The rug is also available from Safavieh.

When you can use your own collection of furniture and accessories, it definitely helps off set the cost of designing a room in a show house and is also great marketing.

I loved the juxtaposition of Thom's Abstract Lines artwork and sketches by Albert Hadley that Bunny Williams lent him on the far wall .

He manged to pack a lot into this small space in including a little Jamesville Bench

A close up look at the beautiful  Manlius Teal drapery fabric that frames each of the doorways.  Of course, Thom designed it for Kravet. The cuff and leading edge fabric is Sheath Tea Stain also from Kravet. I'd be happy to take these off his hands when the house is over since they would perfectly match my apartment.

The chairs are Otisco Chairs by Thom Filicia for Vanguard.

The name of the room is "Green with Aviary: A Tribute to Albert Hadley" and I very much think he would approve of it.

Green Acres

Last April at High Point Market, it was 90 degrees and we were all sweating to death.  This April, it was cold and rainy so we were all shivering.  This is part of the reason that I didn't make it to as many showrooms as usual. But I did see a lot of great things including a lot of green.  Wesley Hall above and below painted some of their walls a bright Kelly green perfect for spring.

I love the navy and white against the green walls.

I really need to use this idea in a project.

This malachite painted dresser at Century Furniture had me at hello.

As did this malachite and Lucite side table at Century

Susan Hable was inspired by green at Hickory Chair

The green Chin Hua bar at Century Furniture was the talk of the town.

I love the mirrored interior with drawers for cocktail napkins and accessories.

This green dresser at Aquarius from Lexington Home Brands is the perfect size for New York apartments.

Chartreuse green with white piping and buttons made me want to take these chairs home from Thibaut's new upholstery collection.

This is a terrible photo but this chartreuse velvet sofa at Hickory Chair was beyond chic.  Makes me want to redecorate.  I wonder if Pantone noticed all the green too.  Might be a contender for the color of 2013.

Green + Polka Dots

Green & Polka Dots--Jadore-fashion.com
Hello beautiful people! Happy Monday! How is everyone doing today? I feel so energized because I had a day off and got the opportunity to rest, sleep in and still finished majority of my school work--Amen to that :)

Green & Polka Dots by jadore-fashion.com

This winter has been really mild for us here in Maryland. I hope I didn't jinx it. I can't wait for spring to begin. I am really looking forward to another vacation. I can't say how much I love traveling--something about airports, planes, and suitcases just cheers me up. Until then, I can keep looking at this beautiful picture of my dream vacation Bali on my Facebook page here :)

Traveling pants

www.jadore-fashion.com

Hello Beautiful people! Hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday and a nice weekend. My weekend was relaxing. Besides relaxing, eating, and fun evenings with hubby, family and friends, I had to prepare for my final exams. I took one of my finals tonight, which went well; so right now, I am officially done with my Monday classes, Investment Finance. I am looking forward to two more weeks of school then I can officially put my mind on my trip to Nigeria.

www.jadore-fashion.com

My trip to Nigeria this December is almost bitter/sweet because I have not been back since my grandma passed almost 4years ago. I can't believe that when I get there I will not get to see or hear her funny comments about my heels. I was a bit emotional last night looking at this necklace that I bought from Macy's that reminded me so much about her and also knowing that she would have celebrated her birthday on November 25th. I truly miss her.

Anyway, the sweet part of this trip is that I get to enjoy the company of family and friends that I have made over the years. I also get to see some friends that I have made through blogging. I think it will be nice to organize a dinner with all the bloggers, friends, fashionista in Nigeria. If you are interested and will be in Nigeria in December/January, email me.
